Artist Statement
To engage my city, I like
to experience the pedestrian friendly downtown
neighbourhoods. While
wandering the streets of Sault Ste. Marie I listen to
fragments of
others’ conversations. These random words, phrases, and
sentences
paint a story for me. And so, I create, in order to allow my
viewers the same eavesdropping experience.
In my current body of work
I explore the interaction between dialogue and
the urban landscape
using the medium of oil paint on compressed wood. By
combining urban
scenes with dialogue, and thereby re-contextualizing the
overheard
conversation, I allow the viewer to explore that situation and find
new meaning.
